Sports Premium
At Woodlands, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children.
We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement all our children.
Primary School Sports Funding enables us to continue and extend our provision by employing additional sports coaches to support staff development, enter into more competitive sports competitions and run additional lunchtime and after school clubs, targeting all groups of pupils.
What is the Sports Premium?
The Government invests £320m per year directly into primary schools with the objective of achieving self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and Sport on offer to pupils.
There is a long-term vision that all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
This funding is ring-fenced and can therefore only be spent on the provision and development of PE and sport in schools.
Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and Sport they offer. This means the funding received should be used to:
- Increase the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff involved in delivering PE & Sport.
- Ensure the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.
- Ensure the profile of PE and sport in school is raised as a tool for whole-school improvement.
- Provide a broad range of sports and physical activities for all pupils to engage with.
- Ensure increased participation in competitive sport.
