Cross-Curricular Learning

Knowledge and skills are taught through a themed topic approach based on the National Curriculum requirements where strong cross-curricular learning links can be made.

Discrete subject based teaching takes place in class when it is a more effective method of learning, blocking subject time where appropriate.

Academy-wide curriculum mapping ensures that learning time is balanced across subjects, year groups and key stages so that teachers deliver the whole of the primary curriculum effectively and learners have sufficient time to explore subjects in depth. Topics often begin with a ‘launch event’ and finish with a ‘learning round up’ providing memorable learning experiences linked to the topic.

These includes:

  • visits
  • visitors into school
  • themed days
  • home/school project work
  • celebration assembly
  • or a recreated experience in school.
